Valley Forge Pilgrimage & Encampment 02/18/2012.

We have another holiday coming up this weekend, President's Day, and that means the Valley Forge Pilgrimage & Encampment. With its origins going back to the first such event in 1913, this marks the 100th consecutive year of the Pilgrimage & Encampment making it the longest running Scouting event in the United States. With this being its 100th Anniversary, we received requests to attend from close to 5,000 Scouts and leaders from all over the country. Given the demand, we were able to get the National Park Service to up its attendance limit from 3,000 to 4,000, but in the end we had to turn away close to 1,000 people representing 47 Scout units from around the country. While we hate to disappoint, the number did have to be capped to ensure a safe, quality program for those that do attend while minimizing our environmental impact on the park. With 4,000 participants, this could very well be the largest Scouting event many of the boys attend over their lifetime. It should be fun and exciting for all
